Class II Biological Safety Cabinets: Class II cabinets offer a higher level of protection compared to Class I cabinets and are the most commonly used type in laboratories These cabinets provide operator, sample, and environmental protection and are divided into four types: Type A1, Type A2, Type B1, and Type B2 biological safety cabinet levels. Class II cabinets have a HEPA-filtered supply air and exhaust system that substantially reduces the risk of contamination.
– Type A1 cabinets are suitable for low to moderate-risk biological materials and provide protection against biohazards such as aerosols.
– Type A2 cabinets are similar to Type A1 but offer additional protection against chemical vapors and gases, making them suitable for work with volatile chemicals.

Class III Biological Safety Cabinets: Class III cabinets are the highest level of containment and provide maximum protection for working with highly infectious or hazardous materials, including Biosafety Level 4 (BSL-4) pathogens These cabinets are completely enclosed and feature gas-tight construction, with all air passing through a HEPA filter before being exhausted outside the facility Class III cabinets are operated via glove ports and are typically used in high-containment laboratories.
