The red and yellow lines represent responses to that drug, and the blue line is a response to the immune system. The blue reaction of the immune system is inhibited by a specific antibody that is produced by a particular type of microbe within the organism. The immunologic response is inhibited if this specific antibody is blocked, as shown by the yellow line. The anti-depressants is blocked, and the immune response is induced to a level that produces a neutralization of the bacteria. In the above graph, two different bacteria have been included. So the question is not a trivial one. Can it be proven that some protein, if ingested, will cause more damage than any other? The answer is not entirely clear, but that is not to say there is a simple answer.
In this blog I am going to look at the most important potential mechanisms by which a given food or protein may affect our health. This first section is a little different than those in the others and looks into the mechanisms that are not yet clear. If, however, you are more familiar with them you will likely find they are quite helpful. So, before we get into this, let's first look at some basic facts about the immune system. Our mammalian ancestors lived almost exclusively in areas with lots of bacteria and low levels of fungi. Most mammals today are descended from species that evolved in the tropics and subtropics. The good type of immune system includes all other types of immune cells, all of which are involved in the process of fighting off any invaders.
Our human ancestors lived in a slightly different environment. The tropics, subtropics and tropical regions were dominated by the very same microorganisms that existed in the earth's past. Most of our DNA was made on the earth's crust, which is not a pleasant place to live. The tropics had a high density of microbes, the temperate regions were inhabited by plants that were much more abundant, and the northern and southern regions of the earth were dominated by animals that could not survive in the harsher environments.
