Details The University of Leicester is one of the top ranked centres for primary care, epidemiology and public health research in the UK (REF 2014). Scientific effort is focussed on applied and translational research in the following areas - cardiovascular disease/stroke, older people’s health and diabetes. It also has expertise in clinical trials, ethnic health and analysis of routine datasets. There is also a particular interest in educational research. This exciting new post funded by a philanthropic gift from George Davies provides an opportunity for a fully qualified General Practitioner, with an interest in academic activities to contribute their primary care knowledge and expertise and to develop their teaching and research skills. In particular, to gain experience in planning, organizing, analysing and disseminating high quality research.
Further Information The appointee will work in association with a new Vascular Limb Salvage Clinic (VaLS) at Glenfield Hospital and a team of vascular specialists including Professor Rob Sayers (The George Davies Chair of Vascular Surgery), Professor Matt Bown (Professor of Vascular Surgery) and Professor Tom Robinson (Professor of Stroke Medicine and Head of the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences) and undertake educational research in association with Professor Richard Holland and the Leicester Medical School aimed at improving recognition of lower limb circulatory disease. This project will investigate the role of educational theory and research to determine optimum ways of developing knowledge in the recognition and management of leg ischaemia. In particular the role of lectures, small group teaching, on-line learning and clinical observation will be assessed together with the need for reinforcement and feedback. The project will also focus on the current potential barriers to prompt investigation and treatment. Candidates for this post should also be undertaking a minimum of 2 regular clinical sessions in an East Midlands GP practice in addition to their role at the University, or be able to do so at the time of appointment. Salary Clinical - £63,733 to £82,616 per annum pro rata Part-time (0.5FTE 18.75 hours per week) open ended contract subject to fixed term funding. Funding is available for 4 years.
